Christianne Stotijn gained her solo diploma for violin in 2000 at the Amsterdam Conservatoire. She pursued her vocal studies in Metz, London, and Amsterdam where, under supervision of Udo Reinemann, she graduated in 2003 with the highest distinction. Since then, her vocal coaches have included Noelle Barker, Udo Reinemann, Jard van Nes and Dame Janet Baker.
Christianne Stotijn has worked extensively with Bernard Haitink who has been one of the most influential figures in her career. Following her hugely successful performances in Mahler's Ruckert Lieder with the Orchestre National de France and Concertgebouw Orchestra conducted by Bernard Haitink, the eminent conductor has invited her for performances of the Mahler 2 with the BBC Proms, Boston Symphony Orchestra and Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Beethoven 9 th with the Lucerne Festival, Ruckert Lieder with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and St Matthew Passion with the Boston Symphony.
Other conductors with whom Christianne Stotijn has collaborated include Rene Jacobs, Gustavo Dudamel, Sir Andrew Davis, Jaap van Zweden, Gennadi Rozhdestvensky, Philippe Herreweghe, Hartmut Haenchen, Frans Brüggen, Marc Minkowski, Ivan Fischer and Mark Wigglesworth. Christianne Stotijn has performed with leading orchestras such as The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Gabrieli Consort, Deutsche Sinfonie Orchestra Berlin, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Die Akademie für Alte Musik, Teatro alla Scala Orchestra, Orchestre des Champs Elysées, Orchestre National de France, Concerto Köln, Sinfonietta Amsterdam, the Czech Philharmonic, Dallas Symphony and Budapest Festival Orchestra. An impassioned performer of song recitals, Christianne Stotijn has appeared in the world's premier concert halls including the Kleine Zaal and Grote Zaal at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall London, Konzerthaus and Musikverein Vienna, Carnegie Hall New York, Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Théâtre du Châtelet Paris, Mozarteum Salzburg, Palais des Beaux Arts Brussels, Middlebury College, Union College, Kennedy Center Washington DC, De Singel Hall Antwerp as well most of the main recital venues in Holland.
Her operatic career has seen her perform the role of Pauline in Pique Dame at the Paris Opera, Isabella in L'Italiana in Algeri at the Aix en Provence Festival, Ottavia in Poppea at the Netherlands Opera and Cornelia in Giulio Cesare at the Monnaie and Netherlands Opera.
Highlights of Christianne Stotijn's 2009/10 season include her debut with the London Philharmonic in the Mahler 2 conducted by Vladimir Jurowski, Das Lied von der Erde with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Bernard Haitink, Das Klagende Lied and Mahler 3 conducted by Daniele Gatti and Paulus conducted by Kurt Masur with the Orchestre National de France, Das Lied von der Erde with the National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Ivan Fischer, her debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in the title role in Tamerlano, St John Passion with the Rotterdam Philharmonic conducted by Yannick Nezet-Seguin, Schönberg Lied der Waldtaube from the Gurrelieder and Schönberg 6 Orchester Lieder with the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Claudio Abbado, Beethoven 9 th with the Orchestre de Paris conducted by Christoph Eschenbach and her season finishes with Bradamante in Alcina with the Teatro Municipal de Santiago in Chile.
Christianne Stotijn has won several important prizes including the 2005/06 ECHO Rising Stars Award, the 2005 Borletti Buitoni Award and in 2008 she was awarded the prestigious Dutch Music Prize. Christianne Stotijn is a BBC New Generation Artist.
Christianne Stotijn records exclusively for Onyx Classics having already recorded a CD of songs by Schubert, Berg and Wolf with Joseph Breinl, Mahler songs with Julius Drake and a third CD of Tchaikowsky songs also accompanied by Julius Drake. In February 2006, she recorded Frank Martin's Die Weise von Liebe und Tod des Cornets Christoph Rilke for MDG, for which she was awarded the Echo Klassik Award 2008.
